Swan 42 Tixwave secured an overall win in the 62nd edition of the Giraglia Rolex Cup offshore race. The prize-giving ceremony took place in Monte Carlo on 21 June Saturday.
The last day of the race coincided with the inauguration of the Yacht Club de Monaco’s splendid new clubhouse, designed by Lord Norman Forster. The ceremony was conducted by HSH Prince Albert II, the club’s President.
The 241nm race was accompanied by changing wind conditions. It started out calmly, met with a mild wind of 15 to 20 knots midway and a tougher one near the finish line.
Tixwave Won Overall Honours
Bernard Vananty and his monohull Tixwave from Switzerland won the overall race, followed by two Italian crews, Luca Locatelli’s Swan 45 Thetis and François Pailloux’s Magic Twelve. “We are very happy to have won the Giraglia Rolex Cup this year especially as we came second last year. We have learned much more about sailing through the race.” Bernard Vananty said he would come back for the challenge next year.
The new clubhouse of the Yacht Club de Monaco hosted the prize-giving ceremony. Bernard Vananty, owner and skipper of Tixwave, was awarded the Rolex Giraglia Trophy and a Rolex Submariner. Igor Simcic, owner of Esimit Europa 2, was awarded a Rolex Yacht-Master I for first place on elapsed time (24 hours, 35 minutes).
