Pastry Contest “Génies de la Gourmandise” at Sofitel Marrakech

The second edition of the pastry contest “Génies de la Gourmandise” began on 4th June at the Sofitel Marrakech Palais Impérial.


Jérôme de Oliveira, the president of the jury started the contest at eight o’clock sharp. Among the fourteen shortlisted candidates, seven first took the challenge. Within eight hours under the scrutiny of the jury, they had to make the following:

  • A citrus fruit tartlet having at least three different textures (crunchy biscuit, jelly, mousse, jam, meringue etc.)
  • A dessert designed by the candidate and accompanied by orange blossom ice-cream;
  • A dessert for six persons made by using Silikomart Kfé baking mat.


The candidates prepared their pastries at the luxurious atrium of the Sofitel Marrakech Palais Impérial throughout the day. In order to reach the standard of high-end pastry, not only their final piece of work had to be perfect, but they also had to be fast, clean and precise during the preparation, which all these were taken into account by the jury. Camille Arnault, the organizer of the contest was also present to make sure everything went well.

It is more than just a contest. It is a showcase of the best of Moroccan pastries and the sophisticated skills of the chefs.
