The second edition of the “Génies de la Gourmandise”, a contest that showcased the best Moroccan pastries, was held at the Sofitel Marrakech Palais Impérial from 3rd – 5th June.
Co-organised by the IHSA Côte d’Azur Maroc and the Sofitel Palais Impérial, the competition aims to promote the best Moroccan pastries to the world, bring cultures together, and discover talent in high-end pastries. This year, the contest was once again presided by Jérôme de Oliveira, the Champion of the World Pastry Cup 2009. The jury included the following respected figures:

Quentin Bailly : Champion of the World Pastry Cup 2013
Jean Sébastien MAGAT : Pastry Chef and Manager of the patisserie Fresson

Choumicha ACHARKI : famous host of Moroccan TV culinary shows
Tahar AIT ERRAMI : Pastry Chef ; Graduate of Ecole de Paris des Métiers de la Table
Rachid MAFTOUH : Chef Executive at Kenzi Tower Hotel
Due to the success of the first edition, “Génies de la Gourmandise” held this year a first round selection in mid-March at the famous patisserie Fauchon in Casablanca and a second round selection at the end of April. There were altogether fourteen candidates shortlisted for the contest.
Champion: Training offered by Jérôme de Oliveira at his patisserie Intuitions in Cannes.
Second runner-up: Training at Chocolatier Valrhona, one of the official partners of the contest.
Third runner-up: a set of pastry tools.
